Andreas Popp holds over 30 years of comprehensive experience in shaping intellectual property (IP) strategy to foster innovation, business growth, and value creation. In his most recent position, he served as Senior Vice President for more than a decade, leading Global Intellectual Property at BASF’s Seeds, Biotech, Nutrition & Health businesses. During this tenure, Mr. Popp established and evolved IP functions into key drivers of competitive advantage and value generation.
His expertise has been instrumental in using IP to facilitate market entry, mergers and acquisitions, and revenue optimization through extensive licensing initiatives and IP litigation programs. Mr. Popp co-developed pioneering industry platforms, notably an IP licensing platform for agricultural crop traits in Europe, addressing intricate legislative requirements and stakeholder interests. He is also recognised for advancing IP analytics and translating academic research into widely adopted industry tools, including enhancements to the Patent Asset Index which is now standard in competitive intelligence and portfolio management.
Mr. Popp is acknowledged for his contributions to policy and legislative development, advising governmental and regulatory bodies, participating in judicial reforms, and serving on expert panels for the German Parliament and prominent industry associations. He holds board appointments in patent and licensing organisations and continues his work as Of Counsel at a leading German patent law firm.
A qualified European and German Patent Attorney, Dr. Popp earned his doctorate in Chemistry from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry. He remains committed to supporting organisations in maximising their strategic and commercial potential of their innovations through IP intelligence, organizational design, and business integration.
