Client challenges

  • The client had changed its IP operating model towards being more proactive and business-driven. The existing IP management system solution did however not meet the needs of the new organization, such as business strategic dialogues with stakeholders outside the IP department.
  • The existing set-up did neither support portfolio use, nor effective identification of specific rights, leading to high lead-times for portfolio and case management.
  • Formed by historical circumstances and outdated ad hoc decisions, the external IP agent model was inefficient and non-harmonized across sites leading to difficulties in case collaboration

  • The client engaged Konsert to lead the transformation of a new IPMS, from outlining way of working internally and with external agents, to identification and assessment of system requirements, procurement of vendor solutions and implementation of chosen system.
  • With the new IP management system, the organization has the IP portfolio at its fingertips. The new IPMS enables the organization to act according to the operating model, for example by enabling browsing and easy access to all information on cases, free-up time for patent attorneys to spend on projects rather than collaboration and document management with external agents and increased cost control by automated cost tracking and forecasting abilities.
  • The support from Konsert led to a reduced implementation time by uniting the organization's stakeholder groups towards a joint vision and avoiding un-necessary stress of key employees who would otherwise have to take on project leadership roles.
  • Overall, a systematic approach to the client requirements enabled well informed decisions along the way on how, when and where to compromise for an effective and efficient process, ending up with an IPMS fulfilling all stakeholder needs with high level of satisfaction.
